  • Textbooks are expert opinion (level 5). All 18 held were read at chapter level on 19 October 2026; cite a specific chapter (author, title, pages), never the book, and check any effect size against the trial pages.
  • Most useful for practice: the AVF handbook for vascular surgeons (lymphatic and chylous chapters), Greene 2015 for patient advice and groin lymphocele surgery, Lee 2018 for breadth, and Neligan 2016 and Liu 2021 for venous–lymphatic overlap.   • Surgical textbooks over-state the evidence: the AVF guideline grades VLNT "strong, moderate evidence" and developer chapters claim cures, while the outcomes chapter in Cheng 2016 and the evidence chapter in Harder 2024 concede that surgery rests on case series. Gaps and warnings

  • Several chapters are written by the developers of the operations or devices they describe (LVA, VLNT, LYMPHA, lymphatic grafting, silicone tubes, thermotherapy, Vodder MLD); some books carry device-company images. Treat their outcome claims as hypotheses.
  • Wittlinger lists MLD indications well beyond lymphoedema (acne, migraine, whiplash) without evidence; Godoy's preface recommends benzopyrones.
